LHSC – Module ONE Step #18

Our minds are like that well-meaning friend
you might have who wants to help with a problem
but sometimes just makes it bigger!
22/27Thanks,
mind!
When we really need our minds to quiet down
so that we can focus on the task or situation at hand,
sometimes our minds instead give us distractions
to make things feel ‘less bad,’ or give us negative self-judgments
to try to get us to ‘be better’ to not be rejected from social groups.
previousBut distraction doesn’t help us to face hard things and move through them.
Overanalyzing the past and trying to guess what might happen in the future
doesn’t help us to deal with the right now.
Having negative self-judgments doesn’t protect us from harm either…
it usually just makes us feel even worse!
NextNo matter what you try – and you’ve probably
tried lots of things! – you can’t make hard feelings disappear.
