a medical appointment) try bringing
yourself back to focus on the moment
and space you’re in by doing
the ‘Five Things’ exercise:
Notice 5 things you can see around you
and focus deeply on each item, noticing its qualities
and characteristics (colour, shape, size…)

Notice 4 things you can hear
and think about what they sound like (near, far, soft, loud…)

Notice 3 things you can touch
and spend a moment with the feeling
of those three things against your skin

Notice 2 things you can smell
and focus on the sensation in your nostrils

Notice 1 things you can taste (a sip of water? a small snack?
your garlicky lunch?!)

When you’ve completed this, re-engage with the task,
conversation or goal at hand.
