LHSC – Module Two Step #6

6/19NextpreviousIndependent doesn’t mean Alone

  • Although you will be responsible for your health care, you will continue
to have a support system available around you. You aren’t alone – there
is lots of help available from your medical team and from the broader
community of people interested in IBD.

  • You have the right to have reasonable accommodation at your school
and work to support your ability to continue with your activities while
impacted by IBD. Post-secondary schools have offices to help with
‘accessibility’ and can help make sure that your schoolwork is not negatively
impacted by illness. At work, your manager or human resources department is
    responsible for this piece.

  • Click here to learn about Crohn’s and Colitis Canada (crohnsandcolitis.ca) ,
an organization that supports people with IBD across the country. Join
support groups for sharing experiences and getting further support.

*You can get an accommodation letter from your health care provider to submit to your school to support you
in your health needs while at school. Ask your doctor, nurse, or social worker for help with this.
